Legendary Rap Star Heavy D. Has Passed Away (1967-2011) Plus Video Tribute

No one could have ever imagined that the performance Heavy D did for a tribute to Michael Jackson would be his last as the news of his passing sent shock waves throughout the hip hop community. Heavy D., born Dwight Errington Myers, collapsed outside his Beverly Hills condo after he suffered difficulty breathing while returning from a morning shopping trip, according to police. A neighbor was reported telling the police that Heavy D. was returning from shopping when he was walking up some steps and stopped because he couldn’t breathe. Others are saying the 90’s rapper was suffering from a case of pneumonia.

We recently covered his live performance at the 2011 Bet Hip Hop Awards and based on the way he was moving across the stage, he appeared to be in great health.

Former group member Eddie F. had this to say about his childhood friend:

“We were only young kids out of high school when we got into the game just wanting to make fun music filled with love and excitement.

“We always had so much fun as a group. I cherish all the happy times we had together while unknowingly helping to build the movement and legacy we call Uptown Records”. Adding, “I love you Hev and we all will miss you so much.”

Heavy D, who was born in Jamaica, had performed at the Michael Jackson Tribute Concert in Wales on Oct. 8. He released an album in 2009, Reggage, which paid homage to his roots.

In an ironic twist, Heavy D died less than 24 hours after tweeting his condolences to legendary boxer Joe Frazier who died Monday, Nov. 7 of cancer. Heavy D’s final tweet was “BE INSPIRED!”

I have a confession to make. I have never, EVER seen any of the Twilight saga films nor do I have any desire to watch them. However I wont deny that these days being associated with the undead is good for business. With the wildly worldwide success of Twilight, the popular television show Vampire Diaries, and my personal favorite HBO’s hit series True Blood its not hard to see why.  Harlem’s very own Jim Jones is contributing to the blood sucking bonanza with the release of his mixtape called Vampire Life which is out now! The above photo is the covert art for Capo’s latest project. Head hung low, surrounded by a flock of bats, and blood dripping from the edges, Jimmy’s new mixtape is taking a bite out of the rap game once again. Rihanna Reveals Jay Z Feature on ‘Talk that Talk’

On Monday, Barbados beauty, Rihanna revealed the tracklist for her upcoming album Talk that Talk, set to release on November 21st. Just this morning, RiRi revealed on Twitter that besides Calvin Harris, who is featured on the track, “We Found Love”, the only other feature will be from her mentor and RocNation head, Jay Z. “Yes sir! Jigga man is on the title track #TTT” tweeted Rihanna.

This isn’t the first time we’ll see the two together on a track. The first two times included Rihanna’s breakout single “Umbrella” featuring Jay Z and then Jay Z’s “Run This Town” featuring Kanye West and Rihanna. Or maybe this is her way of taunting ex-husband Marc Anthony? Willow’s traded in hair whipping, for fireball wielding as it-girl Nicki Minaj joined her on the set of her “Fireball” video shoot, over the weekend in L.A. Nicki spent a little quality time with Willow and the rest of the Smith family, and shared her pic on Twitter stating that she was “part of the family” now.

“Fireball” is off Willow’s upcoming debut album on RocNation. She’s set to appear on XFactor this Thursday, November 10th to perform the single live.

Poor Kim Kardashian.  Life must be so hard for Kris Jenner‘s prize pony. Not only has her blissful 72 day marriage with prop husband Kris Humprhies come to an end before the eyes of everyone around the world, but she’s been so “distraught” over the whole thing she can barely focus on important things like tweeting about lip gloss and aiming her nipped & tucked snout in the right direction for the paparazzi’s photo.

Luckily enough she still has her hired wardrobe stylist and makeup artist to achieve the “leave me alone. I’m going through a divorce which means I’m going to tell my makeup artist to make me look sad and less like a waxed transsexual” look. Kim was spotted strolling through LAX early this morning on a mission of unscripted love as she will flew to Kris’ Minnesota home to get proper closure on their relationship. Translation: Kim will fly to Minnesota so that her ass can burp out that expensive rock! Or maybe she just needs his signature to finalize their arrangement divorce.

The last time I even tried to catch a recent episode I was only in for a good 10 minutes before switching to something funnier. Apparently an ex employee of a North Miami restaurant didn’t believe her unemployment check would come in soon enough so she took matters into her own hands, and cooked up a plot to take what she wanted by force. This was the case when Elizabeth Rae Lingerfelt decided to “set up” a pizza deliveryman who was also her former co-worker by luring him to a bogus address with the intentions of robbing him.

According to a police report, Lingerfelt was employed at Munchy’s Pizza Parlor before she was terminated for stealing customers’ credit card numbers. According to law enforcement authorities, someone called the restaurant and ordered a pizza to be delivered to the 1800 block of Northeast 174th street. When the Pizza man arrived, a woman fitting the description of the suspect pulled out a semi-automatic weapon and demanded money. The delivery man recognized the suspect as his former employee and called the police. When police arrested Lingerfelt, she was carrying a stolen debit card. She was charged with armed robbery and is being held without bond. Now did she really believe she would get away with this crime? She might be eligible for the 2011 Dumbest Criminal Award…she has our vote!

The Marathon is never over for L.A.’s Nipsey Hussle. The Westside thug motivator released the second installment of his Marathon series last week via internet. This go around Nipsey is just as serious as before, picking up where he left off, by beginning The Marathon Continues with the beat from the hidden outro of The Marathon. The production on this mixtape is unique, unlike majority of the tracks in the game, they all fit Nipsey’s swag in every way. On “Who Detached Us?”  Nipsey goes in depth as usual questioning current social norms. “I think too much T.V. ruins kids/ and Homosexual actors influence it”.  Unlike other gang affiliated rapper’s Nipsey’s material consistently has substance and meaning. This claim is backed by a motivational speech at the end of the track by late Apple CEO Steve Jobs, perfect timing to say the least.

After the good stuff, Nipsey gives the gangster music most hip hop fans were waiting for. He and fellow gang buddy Cobby go in over Lil Wayne’s “Bill Gates” instrumental on “Fly Crippin”.  Although Nipsey does not blatantly promote gang banging in any of his lyrics, he makes it sound pretty fun on this track.  “I Need That” featuring  fellow up and coming Westside resident Dom Kennedy passes the trunk exam with a easy A with deep bass and great verses from both artist. “Rose Clique” “They Know” and “The Mansion” are all great tracks ending this lap of the Marathon. Nipsey is really up to something and is sure to gain a buzz before the release of his next album.

What rapper Young Dro has done for(to) the Ralph Lauren Polo brand, 2 Chainz is doing for True Religion brand jeans. Mr. Titty Boi himself is riding high (thanx to that purp in the Sprite) off his street anthem single “Spend It” produced by Drumma Boy off of his newly released mixtape T.R.U. Realigion.

However I’m still not sure what to make of the cover? Is the True Religion company sponsoring Chainz? Did they atleast cut him a check for the shameless promotion of the popular denim with the horse-shoes on the back pocket? Yea, I highly doubt it myself. With his cell phone in one hand and his d**k in the other Chainz keeps his Louis luggage close by at an airport bathroom urinal.

There’s no denying that True Religion jeans are the go-to brand for dope boys’ & hip hop’s elite. I don’t own a pair. I cant justify spending upwards of $200 for a pair of jeans. But if you got it, flaunt it. Its yours, so spend it!  Shout out to the homie 2Chainz for doing it big with his music. Boxing Legend Joe Frazier Dies at 67
Joe Frazier: January 12, 1944 - November 7, 2011

Former heavyweight champion, Joe Frazier passed yesterday, November 7, 2011 of liver cancer after being diagnosed just a few weeks ago. Joe Frazier who was known in the ring as Smokin’ Joe Frazier was most widely known for his fights against boxing legends such as George Foreman and Muhammad Ali, who he fought three times and took the Heavyweight champion title from once. One of the fighter’s most well remembered matches was the “Thrilla in Manilla” fight between he and Ali in the Philipines where it’s been said that the two almost fought to the death.

Smokin’ Joe was born the son of a sharecropper in South Carolina but eventually made his way to Philadelphia after forging a career in boxing, and was considered an adopted son of the city. Joe Frazier was also the only American boxer to win a Gold medal in the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo. The boxing heavyweight held the title of Heavyweight Champion from February 1970 to January 1973.

Boxing greats, athletes and fans took to social media to share their condolences with the Frazier family and offer their memories of Frazier. “The world has lost a great champion. I will always remember Joe with respect and admiration.. My sympathy goes out to his family and loved ones” said Muhammad Ali in a statement he gave after the news of Frazier’s death. George Foreman tweeted last night “Good night Joe Frazier. I love you dear friend”. Floyd Money Mayweather even tweeted that his money team would like to pay for the champion’s funeral services, tweeting “My Condolences go out to the family of the late great Joe Frazier. #TheMoneyTeam will pay for his Funeral services.”

Pint-sized NBA super star, Nate Robinson, was recently spotted on the court wearing the Air Jordan 4 “Doernbecher” sneaker.  Although they dont match with the uniform, the kicks are dope! The dark blue & black combo works well with the Superman logo and kryptonite colored laces. Usually these types of shoes are reserved for non activity wear. Dr. Conrad Murray has been found guilty! The verdict in this case came after the jury delivered for less than 48 hours and in the end the once popular doctor will soon trade in his medical license number for a Department of Corrections prison identification number.The prosecution argued that Conrad administered propofol nightly to pop icon Michael Jackson for a $150,000 monthly allowance.  The drug was used to treat Jackson’s insomnia. Yet, Dr. Murray Conrad knew the risk of using a surgical anesthetic outside of a surgery room.   During the trial, the autopsy revealed levels of propofol and sedatives in Michael’s stomach, blood and urine. The prosecution accused Dr. Conrad of unethical practice of medicine and criminal negligence.  Moments after the presiding judge in the case announced that Murray would be remanded to prison, Los Angeles Sheriff immediately placed handcuffs on him and hauled him of to jail to await his sentence.

Michael’s death not only touched the hip-hop community but the world at large.  Michael left behind his three kids: Prince Michael Joseph Jackson, Paris-Michael Katherine Jackson, and Prince Michael Jackson II. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, Randy, Rebbie, La Toya, and Janet. Many respects to his parents Joesph and Katherine, who were both present at the trial.  Michael was not just an entertainer but an evolutionary of culture and a legend.  He is missed deeply.  On behalf of HipHopEnquirer.com, we would like to send condolences to his entire family and fans all over the world.

Mixtape Review: Business as Usual for North Carolina’s Newest Star, B. Stacks

Although North Carolina hip hop has been on the rise with the recent success of Fayetteville’s   J.Cole, Durham’s only son B. Stacks is due to put the state on the map from a gutter perspective.  The release of his latest critically acclaimed mixtape Big Business, Vol. 1 is nothing short of the title. For starters, the mixtape is hosted by Dj Teknics,  who  is the go to DJ for the hottest mixtapes  annually.  The production features Sonny Digital who is the man behind the year’s  club anthem “Racks” by YC ft. Future.  Big Business is a 2011 standout front to back. From production to lyrics to the flow B. Stacks is a artist to watch out for in  2012.

The mixtape opens with “No Comprende” which is made for the car & club.  Stacks implies  that if the conversation is not about money, he won’t be able to understand you.  Followed by “Add it Up” Stacks reiterates the previous topic over a snare that Sonny Digital used perfectly, separating himself from other rappers out right now with his ability to switch his flow on every verse.  Moving along through to the middle of the mixtape the listener comes across “Bow Down”.  Stacks has a niche for ripping hooks, on this particular selection the chorus rides somewhat like a Wiz Khalifa drug harmony with a unique flow.  Lyrics like “30 rocks on the watch call it perfect timing”  symbolizes Stacks wittiness as well as his ability to flex.

Rounding up with “Smoke”,  Big Business has all the aspects of a quality mixtape. Sonny Digital shows his originality as a producer and Stacks compliments his beats with a flow unique in comparison to most new comers.  The flutes on “Smoke” make the listeners head nod repeatedly while Stacks sew saw flows the beat resembling a veteran.  Stacks has made his presence known on the mixtape scene. With a release like this, business is about to be bigger than ever for Bull City’s finest.
