Omarion’s Ex-girlfriend Apryl Jones Talks Motherhood, Business and New Music

Apryl Jones

Apryl Jones talks Motherhood, Business, & New Music.

Apryl Jones multi-faceted entertainer, mother of singer Omarion‘s son 2-year-old Megaa and daughter 15-month old A’mei is more than just a mom. She’s a mom that wants to inspire all women to create beautiful lives despite their circumstances.

HHE had the opportunity to catch up with Apryl in her hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. Where she hosted an Apryl Wine’s wine tasting event. In a very short but candid interview, Apryl opened up about motherhood and how her relationship with Omarion paused her music career.

Azizah: Thank you for taking the time to talk to me. How does it feel being back in your hometown of Cincinnati?

Apryl: Good, I haven’t been back here since my grandmother passed away in 2010. It’s been 8 years, but it feels good to come and visit to catch up with friends and family.

Balancing Motherhood and Business

Azizah: You have a lot of great things happening for you, a new wine line. Two beautiful babies, how do you manage to balance everything?

Apryl: I’m a very raw and straight to the point kind of woman so when people ask me that I always say. I don’t know? How do you do it, I wake up and I don’t know how I do it, all I know is that I have to get it done.  My babies are my motivation,  I have to hustle for them.  Having that mentality has helped me to able to get by, I have been able to create new wines and even write a book. It’s not about me anymore I have two babies I have to take care of now, it’s not just me. They have given me so much motivation that it’s very different from when I wasn’t a mother and single now I feel purpose.

Azizah: One of the things I loved about you in Love & Hip Hop Hollywood was your stance on choosing to give birth at home. What motivated you do make that choice?

Apryl: What inspired me was a documentary called “The Business of Being Born” by Ricki Lake. After watching her make her transition from hospital birth to home birth, I decided that a home-birth would be the best choice for me. Then I got a midwife who is still a dear friend to this day. She gave me the knowledge that I needed to be brave enough to birth at home.

Azizah: I thought it was really cool of you to use a platform like Love & Hip Hop Hollywood to choose a natural birth. Was that your intention?

Apryl: My intention was to have the best birth experience for me and my baby. I think women should be able to choose birth experiences that make them comfortable, there is not just one way to birth.

Getting back to being Apryl

Azizah: Okay, so you have a new wine line, you mentioned a new book, what else is in the works for Apryl Jones?

Apryl: I’m working on a fashion collection for my children. I’m in the process of finishing my book. And I am going back to the music.

Azizah: Going back to music?

Apryl: Yes, going back. I stopped pursuing my music career for a while because of my relationship with Omarion. I was relying on him to help me with my music because he didn’t want me working a lot of people. So with having my children and Omarion and I breaking up, I am now at a place where I am ready to pursue music again. I’m ready to get back to being Apryl again.

Azizah: You feel like you are at peace with things in your life. Would you say that’s true?

Apryl: I am at peace. I’m happy and life is good.

0

Muhiyidin Elamin Moye, 32, a member of the Charleston, S.C., Black Lives Matter movement, was shot and killed in New Orleans.

Muhiyidin was the Black Lives Matter activist in South Carolina, who gained prominence in the wake of the police shooting of Walter Scott and when he grabbed a Confederate flag from a protester. Muhiyidin Elamin Moye was shot and killed Tuesday in New Orleans, according to the (Charleston, S.C.) Post and Courier.

A police officer found him on the ground, asking for help near the Treme neighborhood, about eight blocks from New Orleans’ French Quarter, according to a police report.

The report said a bloody trail to the body circled two blocks, and a bloody bicycle lay across the street.

Moye, who was also known as Muhiyidin d’Baha, was taken to an area hospital, where he later died, New Orleans police official Beau Tidwell said Wednesday. It was not immediately clear what led to the shooting.

“No further information on this incident is currently available,” police spokesman Gary Scheets said in an email to the Associated Press.

Moye’s niece, Camille Weaver,  told the Post and Courier that Moye was in New Orleans for a personal trip.

Moye grew to prominence in 2015 after he played a role in the release of a video in the fatal shooting of Walter Scott by a North Charleston, S.C., police officer. Moye also gained recognition in February 2017, when he jumped over police tape to grab a protester’s Confederate flag and a video of the moment went viral.

DeRay Mckesson, a prominent figure in the Black Lives Matter movement, said Moye was a fearless, kind man whose death is a big loss for Charleston and the movement. He said they met in 2015, after the highly publicized fatal shooting of Scott.

“He was a strong leader who deeply understood the role of community and the power of helping other people recognize that role,” said Mckesson.

Actor @MichaelRapaport Trolls Our Official Twitter Page After He’s Put On Blast for Disrespecting Janet Jackson

0

There are times when celebrities should use their platform for the good of humanity and Hollywood actor Michael Rapaport has shown that he can do that as he did during his outspoken opinion on how Donald Trump has wielded his power in the Oval office. But unfortunately his opinion on music and the relevancy of musical talent wasn’t as warmly received.  Rapaport decided to question whether the support musical icon Janet Jackson was receiving because of her exclusion from this year’s Superbowl was even justified. Check out his tweet below:

Justin Timberlake graced the stage at the 2018 Super Bowl in Minnesota. This was his first time returning since 2004 when he and Janet Jackson performed during Superbowl’s halftime show. In that performances things didn’t go so ell due to a wardrobe malfunction which was the result of Justin Timberlake revealing one of Janet’s breast for the world to see. Many had questioned whether that particular episode was staged or not because Janet had wore a pasty under her costume. As a result, FCC fined Janet Jackson millions of dollars while Justin wasn’t reprimanded. She has since not been invited to perform at the show while Justin was asked to do the halftime performance this year.

After posting the video he titled “My Social Media Personal Policy” HHE responded telling Michael his “Black Card” is about to be revoked. Micheal then responded back to us with some graphic and just plain outrageous tweets.

Someone definitely has their panties in a bunch don’t you think? Check out the Twitter battle below.

Maybe we were trolling the actor as well but hopefully he understands that many people will always view Janet Jackson as a musical icon. By the way, does anyone question Barbara Streisand’s greatness after she takes off 10 plus years before she does a public appearance.

It must be noted that Rapaport also co-starred in Poetic Justice with Tupac Shakur and Janet Jackson. Film Director Spike Lee cast Rapaport in his 90’s hit film Bamboozled. He also attended Dr. Martin Luther King High School in New York City which was predominately attended by African-Americans.

Should we give Rapaport a pass?

Music Mogul and Judge of Fox “The Four” Charlie Walk Claims He’s Being Extorted

0

Republic Records President, Music Mogul and Judge of Fox “The Four” Charlie Walk claims he is being extorted by an old rival Tom Gilligan.  Charlie Walk claims to have a voicemail of Gilligan threatening to destroy his career. Walk states that Gilligan is upset because he didn’t set up a meet and greet between Gilligan & Jon Bon Jovi. According to TMZ who has possession of the voicemail quote on quote:

“The caller, who sounds drunk, offers Charlie a “deal” — resign from ‘The Four’ and Republic and “nobody will ever say anything.” He claimed Walk hired hookers, and 3 women were ready to go public as part of the #MeToo movement.”

For those who are not familiar with the #MeTooMovement, this was created by victims of sexual and domestic violence as a way to share their own experiences with sexual assault and/or harassment without going into depth. This also displays their unity and support for one another.

These threats from Gilligan was left on Walks voicemail a month prior to Tristan Coopersmith going public with allegations of sexual misconduct against Walk. Due to these accusations, Walk has resigned from “The Four” season finale. The other judges on the show P Diddy, Dj Khaled and Meghan Trainor still haven’t spoken out about Walks decision on resigning for the season finale. Also, there’s no indication of who will be replacing Walk for “The Four” season finale this Thursday.

Walk’s attorney, Duncan Levin, says they’ve taken the necessary steps and filed a complaint about Gilligan with the Manhattan D.A.’s office and submitted the voicemail as evidence.

Heads are rolling at various major record labels since the #MeToo movement has started and we doubt if This story is developing.

Highlighting African Americans with Disabilities in Honor of Black History Month

0
The entertainment industry’s partner on the inclusion of people with disabilities.

RespectAbility celebrates Black History Month by recognizing the contributions made by African American people disabilities. There are 5.6 million African Americans living with a disability in the U.S., 3.4 million of which are working-age African Americans with disabilities. Therefore, we would like to reflect on the realities and challenges that continue to shape the lives of African Americans with disabilities

Some celebrities and business leaders are using their voice to share their stories, educating people about both visible and invisible disabilities. They are defying the statistics and have remained highly successful with their disabilities. These role models make a big difference in setting high expectations for youth with disabilities. People with disabilities of all backgrounds can be amongst the highest achievers on earth. Harriet Tubman had Epilepsy, actress Halle Berry lives with diabetes, business leader and Shark Tank superstar Daymond John is dyslexic and Stevie Wonder is blind. Each of them is a positive role model for success. They are perfect candidates for RespectAbility’s #RespectTheAbility campaign, which is shining a light on individuals with disabilities who are succeeding in their chosen careers. For the first week, this campaign is shining the spotlight on black individuals with disabilities who are entertainment celebrities or who are leaders in the work in Hollywood inclusion.

Our nation’s economy is strongest when it is inclusive of the value that diverse talent brings to the workplace. These celebrities are making a difference in how audiences perceive disability. However, companies including Amazon, Starbucks, Pepsi, J.P. MorganChase, Walmart and others exemplify these values and have specific programs to hire, cultivate and promote people with disabilities. What these businesses have found is that employees with disabilities are loyal, successful and help them make more money.

The celebrities mentioned above below are especially important to acknowledge during Black History Month. However, their work should be valued and appreciated year-round. RespectAbility will be highlighting additional African American celebrities, as well as those who have made important policy advancements, with disabilities throughout the entire month.

“I see the world in a different way than most people and for me, that’s been a positive thing.” – Shark Tank star and businessman Daymond John, who has Dyslexia.
Deafblind lawyer Haben Girma advocates for inclusion in both education and Hollywood.
Harriet Tubman did not let her epileptic seizures stop her from risking her life to free slaves through the underground railroad.
