Gwinnett County, Ga. — February 2026

Reporting by Dennis E. Byron

A newly filed civil lawsuit against Star Ventures Autos, LLC is drawing renewed scrutiny to the Lawrenceville used-car dealership, as court records show the business has previously been the subject of adverse judicial findings in Gwinnett County.

As previously reported, Augustine Kanenge has filed a Statement of Claim in the Magistrate Court of Gwinnett County, seeking $9,000 in damages related to alleged failures involving GAP insurance, extended warranty payments, and loan processing after his vehicle was declared a total loss.

Court records indicate the dealership’s legal troubles did not begin with this case.

Prior Court Order and $84,300 Judgment

In November 2023, Star Auto Ventures, LLC—identified in court records as operating the same dealership—was the subject of a final order and judgment entered by a Gwinnett County State Court judge following a court hearing in the case of Jacqueline Taylor v. Star Auto Ventures, LLC.

According to the Final Order and Judgment, the court found that compelling evidence presented at the hearing supported violations of:

  • The Georgia Fair Business Practices Act
  • The Georgia Used Car Dealer’s Act
  • Malicious prosecution

The court awarded damages totaling $84,300, which included treble damages under Georgia law after the court determined the Fair Business Practices Act violation was intentional. The judgment also provides for post-judgment interest and court costs.

The order was signed by Senior Judge Robert W. Mock of the State Court of Gwinnett County.

Ownership Identified

Court filings and public records identify Yusuf Fatai as the owner of Star Ventures Autos.

Fatai has also been named in recent consumer complaints, including online reviews alleging loan-processing irregularities. In a February 2026 Google review, a consumer accused the dealership of mishandling loan cancellations, allegedly resulting in two active auto loans on a single vehicle, and claimed trade-in payoff checks were returned for insufficient funds. These allegations have not been adjudicated and remain claims made by the reviewer.

Pattern Raises Broader Questions

While each legal matter stands on its own, the existence of a prior judicial order finding statutory violations, combined with a new civil lawsuit and multiple public consumer complaints, raises broader questions about business practices and oversight at the dealership.

Consumer advocates note that disputes involving loan cancellations, GAP insurance, warranties, and trade-in payoffs can expose buyers to serious financial and credit consequences if documentation or payments are mishandled.

What Happens Next

Star Ventures Autos, LLC has 30 days from service to respond to the current Magistrate Court claim. Failure to respond could result in a default judgment.

A hearing will be scheduled at the Gwinnett Justice & Administration Center in Lawrenceville, where both parties may present evidence, documentation, and witness testimony.

As of publication, Star Ventures Autos, LLC and owner Yusuf Fatai have not publicly responded to the latest lawsuit or to questions regarding the prior court order.

Developing Story

This remains an active legal matter. Further updates will be reported as court proceedings continue or if the dealership issues a response.
