New Music Alert: Random Cochella – “George Jefferson” Ft. Big2daboy

0

Today rising singer/rapper Random Cochella delivers her new single, “George Jefferson” Ft. Big2daboy. Often standing out for her eye catching name that’s a combination of the words, “Random Complex Emotions,” according to Random Cochella, “Chella means emotional. I’m a very complex and an emotional person, hence random – complex – emotions, so it’s Random Cochella.”

Led by her new “George Jefferson” single, Random Cochella sings and raps about coming up just like any other rapper, but what’s different is the struggle that most people won’t understand at face value.

Despite growing up just outside of the paradise that is Honolulu, Hawaii, living on the Western part of of the island of O’ahu in the city of Waipahu aka 94 block, Random Cochella grew up under rough circumstances. Lacking support from her mother and being physically abused by her brother, “Chella” found her way out of a bad family situation when she moved to Los Angeles in pursuit of her dreams to make music.

“The new single is George Jefferson, Biggie2daboy came up in the lab out in Hawthorne and he merk’d that sh*t, he got me so stoked.” Random Cochella said. “The song is about moving on up from where we was at and we did it organically. We had talked about collabing every time we seen each other in the streets or at events. The song was produced by Track who had invited Big to come listen to my album and Big was feeling the songs on the album and he wanted to come work on the record, so we did one from scratch. From the ukulele to making the beat we were here for hours vibing and making the beat.”

Managed by her mentor and producer Track, Random Cochella made a way for herself and has since established roots in Southern California.

“I was always told by my family to ‘go sing, go sing’ and I always grew up in a family that loved music. My mom would clean the house and listen to Whitney Houston and a whole bunch of other artists.” Random Cochella said. “I met my producer and teammate Track at a modeling shoot in Hawaii and ever since we’ve been working together and clicked, making the move out to LA. I ain’t even gonna lie we were ripping and running and it was a struggle, but we got through it and it was just an exciting transition. Just feeling out LA itself and just trying to find out who we network with and how we move around was incredible.”

Looking forward, fans can expect a full length album titled Therapy from Random Cochella this Fall that is still in the works and yet to be titled.

“I’m telling you this, not one song is the same – they aren’t ready for this project. I was going through a lot of shit recently and some of it was suppressed feelings from when I was kid. My brother beat me and my mother didn’t support me. My mom’s boyfriend molested me and I had to suppress those feelings among the long list of issues I had to deal with over the course of my life regarding close friends, family and people I met along the way,” she said.

The DMV’s Hip Hip Prodigy Ama’d

0

Meet Maryland hip hop guru Ama’d and his impeccable knowledge of music! Check out below our interview!

LL: Define star power in your own words?

AD: When I think of the term: “Star power” I think of someone(Particularly an artist or a person in the entertainment industry)that carries a certain glow/aura about themselves. It’s very apparent when you meet them in person and or have the opportunity to converse with them. But just speaking from an artist perspective, I definitely feel that sometimes one can gauge another person’s “Star power” through how that person is able to innately/effortlessly capture the attention of others within a specific setting.

What does the DMV mean to you?

Being born and raised in Washington DC to now living in Suitland, Maryland for the past 5 years of my life. One can definitely understand the term: “DMV”, especially if you were allotted the opportunity of living in all three places(Or in my case living in only 2 out of the 3 places). I personally feel that I’ve always had a balance when it comes to acknowledging where I am from specifically(Which is D.C.), but also not being closed minded about all 3 places forming together in unity/solidarity to achieve the same goal.

If you had to make a song to put the DMV culture in the national spotlight, what would it be and why?

That’s a tough, but great question! I’m unsure on who would be a part of/featured on the song, to what the song would even be about, and more. But on the same note, I can attest to the idea that the song will definitely be a song that finds a medium between the artist from the DMV area showing love towards their respective domains. While, still simultaneously being able to bring an appeal to people that aren’t from the DMV and cannot relate that certain background.

For instance, what Jay-Z did with Alicia Keys on the song entitled: “Empire State Of Mind” is a perfect example of an artist displaying patriarchal elements into a song but still bridging the gap in the sense of creating a timeless/wonderful record! I am 100% confident that an artist from the DMV can capture that same magic/essence, while still telling our truth as people from the DMV.

Spell out your name with a word?

Artistically

 Motivated

     And

        Determined

In an industry which is hard to break into, what keeps you going?

Creating timeless music that’ll outlast my physical life span here on the earth! Also, just the release/ love that I have for music when I am creating it. It’s like no other, very therapeutic!

If your life was a movie what would it be and why?

If my life was a movie, then genre wise I feel that it’ll be very diverse in the sense of it having multiple genres within that 1 film. They’ll be action(Of course), drama, romance, comedy, horror, adventure, suspense, mystery, satire, and most of all a biography. Despite so many genres and elements in 1 movie, it’s going to definitely be a cohesive piece of work.

Three things about you that we don’t know?

  • Despite my love for people, I am someone who is very much to himself.
  • I love to eat! So I definitely do not mind cooking for myself or others(I.E. family members, friends, and significant other).
  • I have mixed some of the weirdest combinations of food together! For example, dipping my french fries into a milkshake/frosty. Or, making a sardine filled grilled cheese with avocado spread.

If your life was a movie, what would be the title? The story?

The title of a movie that documents my life would be named: “The beginnings of an end”. It would capture/document my whole life story from birth, all the way to my career as a rapper. The reason that I would name the movie this title is because they’ll be a constant reminder to the viewers of the movie that for the main character(Which is myself)to move forward in accomplishing his goals, he’s going to have to put an end to a lot of the baggage that he constantly carries around so that he can start his new beginnings.

What you got coming up musically?

I am thrilled to say that I’ll be releasing my first ever project independently on all streaming platforms! The name of the project is entitled: “Just Ama’d” and it’ll be a 4 song EP. All of the beats are produced by my producer ET.OnDaBeat, he’s also the one who mixed/mastered and recorded me as well. For me this project has been a long time coming. I’ve been making music professionally for the past 3 years, but I’ve never released a project to the world(Until now).

Where can we find you at?

You can find me on Instagram @ahmad.woodard and you can find me on Twitter @AhmadWoodard2. Also, my Soundcloud, Spotify, and ITunes name is all the same(Just type in Ama’d).

Final thoughts?

I am just honored that I am being given this wonderful opportunity to have my first interview with you all! This is without a doubt a milestone for me, but this is only the beginning! I really look forward to looking back on this interview and feeling a sense of nostalgia. From not only how far I’ve come, but also to see all of the things that I spoke on in this interview that shall manifest in the future! I believe opportunities such as this, provide artists a way to gauge their progress/trajectory pertaining to their career.

Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” Copied Christian Rap Song

0

A jury found Katy Perry’s 2013 hit, Dark Horse, guilty of copying a 2009 Christian rap song.

Dark Horse was the third single off of Perry’s album, Prism, and spent four weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 in early 2014, according to AP News. It features rapper Juicy J and includes a mix of pop and hip-hop sounds. Additionally, the song earned Perry a Grammy nomination, and she even performed it during her 2015 Super Bowl halftime show.

The verdict was reached by a nine-member federal jury in Los Angeles. This comes five years after Marcus Gray and his other two co-authors first sued in 2014, claiming that Perry’s song stole from Joyful Noise, a song Gray released under the stage name Flame. The case is currently in the penalty phase, meaning the jury will decide how much Perry and other defendants owe Gray for copyright infringement.

Jurors eventually found all six songwriters and all four corporations that released and distributed Dark Horse were liable. This included Kerry and Sarah Hudson, who wrote the song’s lyrics, along with Juicy J who only wrote his rap for the song. Capitol Records and Perry’s producers, Dr. Luke, Max Martin and Cirkut were also found guilty.

Gray’s attorneys claim that the beat and instrumental line in Dark Horse are extremely similar to that of Joyful Noise. Gray wrote the song with his co-plaintiffs Emanuel Lambert and Chike Ojukwu.

Perry was not there when the verdict was read, and she has yet to comment on the matter.

0

Cardi B and Vermont senator Bernie Sanders got together before the Democratic presidential debate on Tuesday to make a video addressing many hot topics.

Cardi has recently been voicing concerns about certain political issues such as legislative changes for social security, which she discussed in a GQ interview back in 2018.

Sanders has since praised the rapper for her newly found involvement in politics, most notably during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

“She is really smart. And she is deeply concerned about what’s happening in this country,” Sanders said . “She wants to make sure we improve life for working people in this country, and I’m delighted that she is a supporter.”

The campaign video was filmed at a black-owned nail salon in Detroit called TEN Nail Bar, according to CNN. Sanders said the video was made in the hopes of increasing voter registration among young Americans for the 2020 election.

“We are working on a way to involve more young people in the political process,” Sanders said. “The future of America depends on young people. They are voting in large numbers, but not large enough numbers.”

The two discussed several hot topics such as increasing minimum wage, getting rid of student debt and spreading awareness about climate change.

Sanders took to Twitter after the encounter to reflect.

“Today, Cardi B and I finally met,” Sanders tweeted. “We had a great conversation about the future of America. And let me tell you: Cardi B is right. Together, we’ll get millions of young people involved in the political process and transform this country. Stay tuned for our video coming soon!”

Cardi B also jumped on social media, stating that a majority of questions that she asked during the interview were from her followers.

The video has yet to be released.

Kodak Black Releases Freestyle From Prison

0

Rapper Kodak Black managed to find some time to release a freestyle during a phone call while in prison.

The 22-year-old was placed behind bars back in May when he was about to take the stage at Rolling Loud Miami after police connected a gun that he owned to an attempted drive-by shooting. He was booked on firearm charges and is currently awaiting trial.

The most shocking lyrics from his freestyle come from Black’s threat against City Girl’s Yung Miami. The Act Up rapper is expecting her second child later this year with boyfriend Southside. This is their first child together, and sixth for the 808 Mafia producer.

“And I bought Yung Miami a ring, she wanted 808’s baby/ When I see her I’mma hit that btch in her stomach/ The way I keep this sht too real f*ckin’ up my money,” Black said.

The Tunnel Vision rapper has been accused of violence against women before, as he was previously arrested for an alleged rape and assault of a woman in 2016. Black’s new freestyle understandably provoked a response from Southside. He took to his Instagram story stating, “Somebody tell Kodak to suck a dck. How about that. And get up out of jail first, pssy.”

Kodak later responded on his Instagram story by saying “I ripped dat bih ainna ?!! @808mafiaboss Put a beat to it,” he wrote.

Nicki Minaj Spotted Getting Marriage License

0

Nicki Minaj and boyfriend Kenneth Petty were spotted getting a marriage license in Los Angeles on Monday, July 29.

The two began dating last year after rekindling a flame from their youth, according to TMZ. Sources say the 36-year-old and her boyfriend were at a Beverly Hills Courthouse waiting in line to get the paperwork needed for marriage. However, back in June, Minaj stated on her Queen Radio show that she and Kenneth had already gotten their marriage license.

The two reportedly did their best to disguise themselves, as Minaj was seen wearing a ball cap. However, her knee length, bright red hair made her hard to miss waiting in the line with her soon to be husband.

Fans also suspect Minaj of being pregnant due to her recent feature on Chance The Rapper’s Zanies and Fools. The song is included on Chance’s new album, The Big Day. In the song she states, “Bout to walk down the aisle and be a mommy.” She also defended her relationship with Petty on Queen Radio, stating “When a person is with a ngga that loved them before they had a dime in their pocket? How do you not understand that? How do you not understand happiness versus clout? How fcking dare you talk about lowering standards.”

While a marriage license is only good for up to 90 days, there is no word on when the couple will make it official. This will be Minaj’s first marriage.

Mariah Carey Congratulates Lil Nas X On Breaking Her Record

0

Lil Nas X recently broke the record for the longest running Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single of all time on Monday, July 29.

The record was previously held by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men for their 1995 hit, One Sweet Day, which spent 16 weeks at No. 1, according to Billboard. The only other song to tie the duo was Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber with Despacito back in 2017.

Old Town Road made its way onto the country charts early on before being pulled due to outraged country fans, despite its clear country influences.

Carey quickly took to Twitter to congratulate the young rapper, stating “Sending love & congrats to @LilNasX on breaking one of the longest running records in music history!” Carey tweeted, alongside an illustration of her literally passing the torch to Lil Nas X. “We’ve been blessed to hold this record with a song that means a great deal to @BoyzIIMen and myself and has touched so many. Keep living your best life!”

Lil Nas quickly responded on his Instagram by reposting Carey’s tweet a captioning it “legend,” followed by a heart emoji. He even posted on twitter, saying “wowwww thank you so much mariah! you are a legend and an icon and i’m blessed to even have you acknowledging me right now! growing up to your music & now having you talk to me directly is unreal!”

Old Town Road has had several remixes since its release date, and has since spent 17 weeks at No. 1 so far.

Future’s Bodyguard Will Not Press Charges Over Airport Incident

0

Future’s bodyguard will reportedly not be pressing charges against the individual who sucker punched him with a rock in an altercation which occurred at an airport in Ibiza, Spain.

Last week, Future was harassed by a group of 10 men who asked the rapper for a picture. After he politely declined, the men became angry and started shouting racial slurs at him. Future’s bodyguard quickly stepped in, where he was later struck from behind with a rock and knocked out cold. The rapper was quickly whisked away, as his crew did not want him to end up like A$AP Rocky who is now being charged with assault for an altercation which occurred in Sweden.

There is currently no investigation of the incident, even though the Civil Guard of Spain is aware of the attack, as it was caught on video, according to TMZ. They state the reasoning for this is that no one has come forward to press charges and without that, they will not pursue the alleged assailants.

Additionally, the agency states that even if an assault includes a deadly weapon, someone has to come forward and officially file a report to press charges in order for an investigation to be launched. The only acceptations are if the violence occurs against a minor or a woman or results in death.

According to sources from TMZ, the bodyguard has no intentions of pressing charges or taking any sort of action in regards to the incident. As a result, there will be no consequences for the attackers and they will go free.

Nipsey Hussle’s “Marathon Clothing” Store To Be Surrounded By LAPD On His Birthday

0

The late rapper Nipsey Hussle’s birthday is quickly approaching on August 15, and Los Angeles police officers are preparing for a huge turnout at his clothing store.

Hussle would have been 34-years-old, however, he was shot and killed outside of his store, Marathon Clothing, back in March of this year.

He was a beloved member of the community, and was known for his philanthropy and attempts at ending gang violence. As a result, law enforcement said they expect a heavy presence at the Marathon Clothing store in Hussle’s honor. His memorial and funeral services were also attended by thousands back in April. Police said they don’t anticipate violence, however they will be ready in case things get out of control, according to TMZ.

LAPD will reportedly have more than 100 officers in the area, however many will be in plain clothes so that they do not come off as threatening.

Nipsey and his business partners were being investigated at the time of his death for alleged gang activity around his clothing store. All the while, police were praising him for his activism in the community and his fight towards ending gang violence. However, police said they were not specifically targeting Hussle, but just looking to solve the gang problem in the area surrounding The Marathon store.

Bow Wow Faces Backlash For Wendy Williams Comments

0

Bow Wow was recently caught in some controversy after body shaming Wendy Williams on Twitter.

The 32-year-old posted a photo of Williams wearing a black bikini on the beach on Sunday, captioning it “They say its a hot girl summer,” followed by several emojis. This comes after Bow Wow reportedly called singer, Ciara, a “b*tch” during a nightclub appearance and bragged about “having her first.” The incident was caught online and gained the attention of many, including Williams.

“Bow Wow, I am mad at you … What’re you doing,” the 55-year-old said during the Hot Topics segment last Wednesday on her show. “Bow Wow, I’m not hating on you, but young man, so what?” She continued, “It’s very distasteful. We’ve all had somebody before we had you, man. We’ve all lived, but to be shirtless in a club and calling her a ‘b*tch,’ you were so wrong for that.”

People were quick to criticize the rapper for his comments about Williams on Twitter. “When it’s short boy summer we’ll ask for your opinion,” one user said, while another said “Yet she out here making much more money than you and ended you.”

A few Twitter users even pointed out Bow Wow’s hypocrisy. “You literally have a daughter…body shaming ain’t the move,” stated one account. “You are raising a daughter….the way you speak about women… just sad …..,” another user added.

Despite the comments, Williams appears to be unfazed, as she has yet to comment on the matter.
