New Video: Beyonce Ft. J Cole “We Like To Party”

6

Beyonce "Party"

We Like To Party… Ayyye! Beyonce’s new video is ridiculously dope with cameos from Solange and Kelly Rowland.  The video theme makes partying in a mobile Trailer Park absolutely retro. Bey maybe preggo, but clearly she is ready to give all her love. Our only issue is that we would have loved to have seen Andre 3000 in the video. His verse is sick!

Occupy Oakland Protests Get Violent But Protestors Pick Up Where They Left Off

0

Yesterday, Occupy Oakland demonstrations went awry when hundreds of Oakland police tried to dismantle Occupy Oakland’s tent city. The disarray started early Tuesday morning when hundreds of Oakland police raided Occupy Oakland’s tent city where about 300 protestors were camped. About 12 hours later, over 1000 protestors returned to the camp city across from Oakland’s Frank Ogawa Plaza. Oakland police used tear gas at least three times in order to break the crowd up.

“We had to deploy gas to stop people from throwing rocks and bottles at police,”said Interim Police Chief Howard Jordan. There have also been reports that flash bang grenades and wood dowels were also thrown at protestors. It’s been reported that over 100 protestors were arrested, while two people suffered injuries and one was hospitalized due to a head injury. Occupy Oakland protestors have stated that they will return to Frank Ogawa Plaza tonight at 6 pm.

Coroner Says Amy Winehouse Died of “Alcohol Poisoning”

0

According to USA Today, British coroner, Suzanne Greenway announced today that Amy Winehouse who tragically passed this past July died of accidental alcohol poisoning. “The unintended consequence of such potentially fatal levels (of alcohol) was her sudden and unexpected death,” said Greenway. The singer who was found in her London home on July 23, started drinking again after a period of abstinence claims Winehouse’s doctor Christina Romete. Although Romete had prescribed drugs to help Winehouse deal with her alcohol withdrawal symptoms, Corner Greenway said the drugs played no role in her death.

The Winehouse family spokesman Chris Goodman said that Winehouse’s family is relieved to finally “find out what happened to Amy.” “The court heard that Amy was battling hard to conquer her problems with alcohol and it is a source of great pain to us that she could not win in time,” said Goodman.

Exclusive!! B.o.B Hosts Strange Clouds Listening Session in Atlanta (Video Inside)

0

Bobby Ray aka B.o.B.

Last night, Strange Clouds covered Atlanta’s Tree Sound Studios as breakthrough artist and hometown representer, B.o.B. hosted a listening session for his upcoming album, Strange Clouds. Strange Clouds is set to release March of 2012, but B.o.B. picked seven exclusive tracks on Monday to get feedback from industry pros, media and fans alike. After the session, we had a chance to chat it up with B.o.B. about the upcoming project.

With candles lit and a mic in hand, B.o.B. gave the audience a peak into his creative process and how each song started from just a sound or lyric and organically grew into a finished piece. B.o.B. stated that he has over 70 tracks for the new album, but is still in the process of narrowing down which ones will make the final cut.

Steve Raze (allhiphop.com), Dennis Byron (Editor in Chief HHE) & Maurice Garland (XXL, MauriceGarland.com)

I’ll take this moment to admit that my love for B.o.B. faded pretty quickly after “Haterz Everywere”  and “I’ll Be In the Sky” as he seemed to be taking too much of a Pop approach to his music, for my liking. Not this time though. Strange Clouds has something for everyone, as Bobby Ray seems to get back to his Southern roots with bass-heavy tracks like 5 on the Kush featuring Big K.R.I.T., which any hardcore Hip Hop fan could ride to, but still has a couple of lighter, crossover songs that middle America high school kids will love. One of the standout tracks of the night was “Play My Guitar” featuring Hip Hop veteran, Andre 3000. Honestly, 3 stacks spits one of his best verses we’ve heard from him in a while, and as you probably expected, plays his guitar too.

Strange Clouds, which will be B.o.B.’s sophomore album definitely seems like it’s going to reflect a more mature B.o.B. whose developed  not only as a rapper, but also as a producer, and an artist who knows his sound and how he wants the world to hear his music.

Well Dayum!! Reverend Al Calls Those Who Oppose Tyler Perry “Proper Negroes”

1

Last Wednesday, Reverend Al Sharpton’s National Action Network hosted its 2nd Annual Triumph Awards, where film maker Tyler Perry was honored. Perry, whose movies consistently make millions at the box office, has often been ridiculed by not only the film world for his comedic, surface plots but also by many in the African-American community due to his portrayal of blacks in a one dimensional light. Sharpton lashed out at the haters by calling them “proper negroes”. “The ultimate pride is where you don’t have to bend and adjust for others to accept you.” said Sharpton.

Here’s what Perry had to say about the backlash against his movies when thanking Sharpton and accepting his award:

“When you start out and you’re doing things and you’re trying to do the right things, and you find these attacks happening, and you try and figure out, ‘How do you handle this? How do you deal with this? How do you go there?’ So to have someone like you who has done all that you have done. To stand here and to give me this award, this is really, really awesome.”

What do you think of Sharpton’s comment. Tacky or truth??

Dropping Knowledge… Georgetown University Teaches Jay-Z Classes

0

With a move we can appreciate, Michael Eric Dyson, author/professor at Georgetown University  has started teaching a full course based off of none other than Sean Carter aka Jay Z’s work. The course titled Sociology of Hip Hop: Jay Z, is a three-credit class that explores Jay Z’s music, career and his social and cultural influence.

“..it’s important for young people to see that the rhetorical invention of African American culture needs to be taken seriously with one of its greatest artist.” Dyson told MTV’s Rap Fix. The Hip Hop students won’t be just sitting in class listening to classics such as The Blueprint and Reasonable Doubt, but will also be covering material including Jay Z’s Decoded, Zack O’Malley Greenburg’s Empire State of Mind and Adam Bradley’s Book of Rhymes. The course only has room for 30-40 students but over 140 students wanted to be a part of the Hip Hop classroom.

Flo Rida’s a No-Show for Australian Performance & Room Raided

1

This past weekend, Flo Rida showed up almost three hours late for a performance he was scheduled for at New Castle’s Fat as Butter festival in Australia. Once Flo Rida finally showed up at the venue he was set to perform at, the promoters said that he was not “in a suitable condition to perform”. The promoters of the show took to Facebook to air out their grievances. Here’s what they had to say:

The club did everything in its power to meet the needs of Flo Rida and his management. From the demands for late specialty items in his dressing room, to offering to pay all transport expenses to get him and his entourage to the venue (after his own arrangements supposedly fell through).

We understand the level of disappointment everyone must have felt, especially his younger fans. We too are extremely disappointed given the pride we take in presenting professional live music events.

Flo Rida took to Twitter to apologize to his Australian fans.

But there’s more to the story! That same day, Flo Rida’s “personal assistant” Dakari Dalawn Phillips was arrested and fined after Flo Rida’s hotel room was raided due to reports of a “strong smell of burnt cannabis”.

According to prosecutor Colleen Wainwright, A search of the hotel room netted the following:

A clip seal bag with 16g of green leafy material
A joint with 1g of cannabis
Three grinders
A set of scales covered in specks of green leafy material
A gold capsule of tetrahydra cannabis
A viagra tablet
A 10ml bottle of liquid cannabis
A Uzi taser

Hold up, we’re still not done yet. After his court appearance, Phillips decided to try his luck with a female reporter and let’s just say that didn’t work out too good for him either!
